Birth of Winnie

Imagine this: My client went chatting with me on the phone, cracking jokes and laughing at me. To 5 minutes later, her parter called me to say, “I’m not panicking, I’m just crying!” Turns out she had just started pushing and he no longer knew what to do!! Talk about a quick switch!

Skye and Roy decided to keep their baby's sex a surprise until the big moment, and everyone was betting on a boy. Watching them find out they had a baby girl was pure magic—one of the most memorable births I’ve ever seen as a Colorado Springs birth doula and photographer.

If you know me, you know I’m ALWAYS on call for all things birth. This time, it was the real fire drill deal! Skye thought she needed to poop but Winnie had other plans. She made her grand entrance at Beginnings Birth Center, just seconds before I arrived. Skye thought she could hold off until I got there, but nope—Winnie couldn't wait to meet the world!

I was speeding like a maniac but hit every single red light and missed the birth by about 2 minutes! Can you believe it? Despite not being there for the actual birth, I was able to capture some serene and beautiful moments as the family welcomed their newest member. It was a whirlwind, but I’m so grateful to have been part of it all.

Midwifery care truly shines in moments like these, where families feel supported and empowered throughout the birthing process. This is why I love being a birth doula and maternity photographer in Colorado Springs—capturing these real, raw, and beautiful moments.
